Pembroke Dock Marine Land Remediation Works Construction Information

6 OCTOBER 2022

Update from the Walters Group, contractors for land remediation works in Gate 4, Pembroke Port.

The Walters Group has mobilised on site ready to undertake clearance and levelling works at Pembroke Port, as well as the demolition of the Millforge building.

This is the second phase of the improvements being made as part of the £60m Swansea Bay City Deal Pembroke Dock Marine project, with work already underway on the demolition of the slipways and associated buildings by contractor BAM Nuttall.

How is the work progressing?
The project is on schedule. The demolition of the slipways and creation of a new super-size slipway is due to be completed towards the end of 2023. The Walters Group has set up a site compound in the south west corner of the Dockyard and are scheduled to complete the land remediation works creating 17,000 sqm of laydown space within the same timescale.

  • Site clearance works have been undertaken to clear vegetation and debris over the site
  • Further testing and sampling of the site ground conditions
  • Fencing erected to secure the site and the demarcation of the ecological areas on the perimeter of the site
  • Trial holes to locate existing services in and around the area
  • Preparation work for the demolition of the Millforge building at the south side of the site which is due to commence shortly

What hours will the Walters Group be working?
Core working hours will be 07:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday / 07:30 to 13:00 Saturday. The team may need to extend beyond these hours depending on the work, but will ensure standard operations take place between 07:30 and 17:00.

Will the work cause disruption?
The Walters Group has worked with the Port of Milford Haven to mitigate the risk of disruption where possible, however some operations will create some residual disruption, including noise, dust and vibration. Due to the increased activity at Pembroke Port, there may be an increase in traffic flow to and from the site. We will keep you updated on any significant disruptions if they arise.
