At Pembroke Port, our people are at the heart of everything we do. This time, we’re introducing Ellie Kokolin, our Commercial Assistant, whose enthusiasm, attention to detail, and team spirit make her a valued member of the Port’s operations.

Ellie joined us in 2023 and has quickly become an integral part of the team supporting our commercial and operational activities.

We caught up with Ellie to learn more about her journey, her role, and what makes Pembroke Port such a special place to work…

Can you start by telling us your name and your role at Pembroke Port?

Ellie Kokolin, Commercial Assistant

How long have you been part of the Pembroke Port team?

I started at the Port in November 2023 as Operations Admin Assistant and then progressed into my role as Commercial Assistant in October 2024.

Can you describe what your role involves?

In my role I am responsible for handling customer enquiries and preparing detailed estimates and invoices and am also responsible for monitoring Port activity to make sure that all the revenue is captured.

This includes working closely with the Operations Lead and Port Supervisor ensuring all laydown and storage areas are measured correctly.  Within my role, I also research and identify target audiences as required by the Commercial Manager, and work alongside her to ensure visitors are welcomed with refreshments and are signed in appropriately.

That sounds like a varied role! What does a typical day look like for you and your colleagues?

A typical day at Pembroke Port starts at my desk, where I review and respond to any urgent emails and enquiries that may have come in overnight.

Myself and the team then have a brief catch up about any vessel movements and share any key updates before we continue with our own individual tasks.

What would you say is the best thing about working at Pembroke Port?

The best thing about working at Pembroke Port is working closely with such an amazing team and watching the different vessels and projects coming in and out.

Do you have a favourite or most memorable day at work?

I have so many favourite and memorable days working at the Port. The one that really stands out to me is organising and holding my first local Networking Event.

It was very rewarding watching everybody enjoy themselves and meeting our customers.

Which activity at the Port fascinates you the most, and why?

I think the activity that fascinates me the most is watching the Pembroke Port team unloading animal feed vessels.

It’s lovely to see everybody working together to get the job done. This includes internal and external parties (surveyors, agents, commercial team, and the operations team).

If you could add one new facility or feature to Pembroke Port, what would it be?

One facility I would love to add to Pembroke Port is more quay space.

Do you have any special skills, hobbies, or hidden talents outside of work?

Out of work I thoroughly enjoy taking care of my two horses Bunny and Fern, whilst regularly taking them on new adventures around Pembrokeshire.

What makes Pembroke Port special?

Pembroke Port is so special as we go above and beyond for our customers delivering a first-class service.

How does the team work together to handle the variety of tasks and challenges at the Port?

As a team, we always work closely together supporting one another where we can and overcome any tasks and challenges that we may face.

What’s the most interesting cargo, project, or activity you’ve seen come through the Port?

The most interesting activity I have seen at the Port is the different types of vessels we have had in, such as the offshore vessel, Grand Canyon III and the tanker, Sir John Fisher.

Finally, if you could describe Pembroke Port in three words, what would they be?

Surprising, different, and welcoming.

From her very first day, Ellie has embraced the fast-paced, collaborative environment of Pembroke Port. Now in her role as Commercial Assistant, she plays a vital part in keeping the Port running smoothly.

Ellie’s professionalism, enthusiasm, and genuine care for both her colleagues and customers perfectly reflect the values that make Pembroke Port unique. We’re proud to have her as part of our team and look forward to seeing her continue to grow and thrive in her role.
