In the beginning of June 2026, Northern Storm utilised Pembroke Port's Workboat Pontoons as a key operational base while undertaking a geophysical survey in support of the Greenlink Interconnector operations between Wales and Ireland.

Over several weeks, the vessel made numerous visits to the pontoons, taking advantage of the facility's flexibility and convenient access to the Celtic Sea. The campaign demonstrated how Pembroke Port's marine services and infrastructure can support complex offshore projects and infrastructure, while allowing operators the freedom to work efficiently around changing schedules and survey requirements.

The Requirement

As part of the Greenlink Interconnector’s ongoing survey requirements, Northern Storm was carrying out geophysical survey work offshore. To support these operations, the vessel required a port facility that could accommodate regular arrivals and departures while providing essential shoreside services.

The Solution

Pembroke Port's Workboat Pontoons provided an ideal solution, offering Northern Storm a flexible and accessible berth throughout the survey campaign.

During their stay, the vessel made use of:
•    Fresh water supply.
•    Shore power (electricity).
•    Waste disposal facilities.
•    Storage services provided by Williams Shipping and Pembroke Port’s cargo shed.

The combination of dedicated workboat berthing and supporting port services enabled the vessel to maintain efficient operations while conducting survey activities in the Celtic Sea.

The Outcome

By using Pembroke Port as its operational base, Northern Storm was able to carry out its survey programme effectively while benefiting from a range of practical shoreside services.

Key benefits included:
✅ Flexible access to the Workboat Pontoons throughout the project.
✅ Reliable access to water and electricity.
✅ Convenient storage facilities and waste disposal services.
✅ Reduced operational downtime between offshore survey activities.
✅ Strategic access to work sites within the Celtic Sea.

For the crew, one of the standout benefits was the flexibility offered by the pontoons, allowing them to come and go as required to meet project demands.

Customer Feedback

The positive relationship developed during the project was reflected in the feedback received from the Northern Storm team upon completion of their work:

"I want to thank you for your assistance. It is a pleasure coming to Pembroke every time and a big part of it is the service" said Ludwig Wallinder, Master Northern Storm.

Supporting Offshore Projects in the Celtic Sea

The successful support of Northern Storm's hydrographic survey campaign highlights Pembroke Port's ability to provide flexible marine infrastructure and operational services for vessels involved in offshore energy, subsea infrastructure and survey projects.

With dedicated Workboat Pontoons, utility connections, storage facilities and easy access to the Celtic Sea, Pembroke Port continues to support operators working on major regional projects and submarine infrastructure such as the Greenlink Interconnector.
