The Celtic Freeport approves seed capital investment - Celtic Freeport

Tom Sawyer, CEO at the Port of Milford Haven said:

“We welcome this announcement by the Celtic Freeport. Ports are critical enablers of Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW), and the sector cannot be deployed at scale without significant investment in the infrastructure needed to support it. That includes new quays, heavy-lift capacity, assembly and storage areas, and deep-water access, all of which are essential to creating a competitive FLOW industry in the Celtic Sea.

“This Seed Capital Funding will support the first phase of our long-term ambition for Criterion Quay. The investment will enable the remediation of 17,000m2 of brownfield land, creating development-ready space that can support future port infrastructure and offshore wind activities.

“Together with the existing facilities and capabilities at Pembroke Port, this represents an important step towards establishing the infrastructure needed to support the growing pipeline of floating offshore wind projects in the Celtic Sea and to capture more of the supply chain opportunities here in Wales.

“As the UK's leading energy port, we recognise the transformative opportunity that floating offshore wind presents for South Wales, helping to secure jobs, attract investment, strengthen energy security and drive long-term industrial growth.

“We will continue to work closely with the Celtic Freeport and our other partners to maximise the long-term economic benefits of this opportunity for our communities and the wider region."
